Lightwater Valley has launched its latest attraction, the Spinning Racer roller coaster, marking a significant milestone in the park’s 2026 season.
Following months of anticipation, the new spinning roller coaster welcomed its first public riders on Friday, April 3.
The opening ceremony was led by James Mellors of the Mellors Group, who performed the official ribbon-cutting to signal the start of this new era for the North Yorkshire theme park.
The atmosphere at the launch was described as "electric", with local families gathering to be among the first to experience the new ride. The arrival of Spinning Racer represents a major investment in the park’s ride lineup, reinforcing its commitment to providing family-friendly thrills.
A New Whirlwind Experience
Spinning Racer delivers a dynamic ride experience characterised by its freely rotating cars. As each car navigates the circuit's sharp turns and sudden drops, the individual cars spin based on the weight distribution of the passengers, ensuring that no two rides are exactly the same.
The ride’s compact but intense layout is designed to appeal to a broad demographic, offering enough excitement for thrill-seekers while remaining accessible for the younger adventurers meeting the height requirements.
A Bright Future for Lightwater Valley
The opening of Spinning Racer is a centerpiece of the park’s 2026 strategy. During the launch event, representatives teased fans that this is just the beginning for the park, suggesting that further developments and investments are on the horizon as the Mellors Group continues to evolve Lightwater Valley.
Posting to social media after the opening, the park expressed gratitude to the fans and families who attended the debut:
"What a moment! Huge thanks to everyone who joined us for the official launch... The atmosphere was electric, and it was incredible to see so many families there to experience the excitement first-hand!"
