Crealy Theme Park & Resort has officially opened its highly anticipated new family thrill ride, Pirates' Plummet.
We were at the park to witness the South West’s tallest drop tower ride make its debut and to take the plunge ourselves.
The Experience: Facing the Fall
Standing at an impressive 80ft high, the ride has completely transformed the Crealy skyline. Having experienced the new ride during today's opening, the first thing that strikes you is the anticipation. As the gondola slowly climbs to the summit, riders are treated to unparalleled panoramic views of the park and the surrounding hills, but the scenic beauty is short-lived.
The 'plummet' itself will be a genuine heart-in-mouth moment for young thrillseekers. The free-fall is sudden, providing a level of 'airtime' that was previously missing from the park's lineup. It successfully builds on park’s lineup of attractions for younger children, offering a new level of thrill for older children and teenagers.
Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)
Fans may recognise the hardware of the new attraction; the ride is the former Magma drop tower ride from Paultons Park – after being transported to Devon, the ride has been fully re-imagined and themed by the Crealy team, who have done a fantastic job breathing new life into the attraction.
Pirates' Plummet fits seamlessly into the park's existing Pirate-themed area, alongside Jolly Roger and Flying Dutchman, and all the fresh thematic touches make it feel like a brand-new addition rather than a relocated classic.
There are even some Pirate-themed food options available, with both a towering donut stack, Brave The Punge (£9.95) and an extra special Pirates' Sundae (£5.95).
Opening Day Festivities
The atmosphere at the park today was electric. Despite the typical April weather, crowds gathered early to be among the first to #FaceTheFall.
Annual Pass holders were out in full force this morning, taking advantage of their exclusive 'Early Ride Time' between 10am and 11am. An old favourite, Captain Crealy, was at the park welcoming guests and posing for photos.
The opening also coincided with the launch of the park's K-Pop Party, which saw the Arena transformed with high-energy performances.

Looking Ahead
Pirates’ Plummet is just the first of two major additions for the park in 2026. Josh Haywood, Managing Director at Crealy, was on hand today and expressed his pride in the project:
"To see Pirates' Plummet finally welcoming guests is a landmark moment for us. It’s a statement of intent for the future of Crealy. This is just the beginning of our 2026 season, and the reaction from guests today has been fantastic."
The excitement doesn’t stop here. While Pirates' Plummet is now operational, work continues nearby on Rotor, which will be the South West's first inverted ride, and is expected to open this summer.
We were given a behind-the-scenes look at the new ride, which is a major addition to the park and a significant investment in its future.
Pirates' Plummet is now open daily. For the best prices on tickets and to see the K-Pop Party schedule, visit the Crealy website.
